Name: Vita Clotilde-Morris
Canon: Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel (R3 and MW2 CRAU with some PSL mixed in)
True Canon Point: Shortly after MW2. She's had a chance to meet John Morris, she's sent as many of the hostages home as she can, but her and Jonathan haven't gone home quite yet.
History: Canon stuff
R3 events:
-Everyone arrives, Vita meets a few people. The most important of those meetings is that she meets Jonathan and they hit it off right away really. At this time he makes a promise to protect her.
-They also meet Marie and Vita tries to be nice to her, but that doesn't last.
-During the first week, she meets Akira at a meeting and finds out he's from a previous murdergame and finds out that someone she knows is a part of it. At this point Akira becomes a potential danger to her.
-The first motive goes up, and it's something Vita can't ignore. While she doesn't care about the ability to resurrect the dead, she cares about the threat to block that capability. She doesn't truly believe Marie has that ability, but can't ignore the possibility and thus Akira becomes her choice of a target.
-She makes preparations and just hours before she's going to meet with Akira to try and kill him she admits that she is attracted to Jonathan by kissing him because she doesn't want to regret not telling him before this all goes down.
-She attempts to carry out her plan, but is disarmed and injured. Akira ends up murdering her. Still an acceptable outcome to Vita since someone just needed to die for her to succeed, she just would have preferred it not be her.
-She wakes up in the temple with Akira after some time. She's not pleased with him, but agrees to his idea of a truce.
-Richard arrives and they find out that they were actually alive when they arrived there. They find out they are actually outside of the base.
-Other dead arrive as well, they eventually find the mecha and restore it to working order. Halley arrives with an army and surrounds them. They take Kerri and escape to the base to try and rescue the others.
-They arrive during the final trial and find out the others have allied with Halley and everyone leaves after happy reunions for the dead and living and regaining lost memories. Vita also gets Grianos from Nagisa.
-They find out what was really behind all this, but don't really believe it since those memories are lost forever. Ivy is saved though and she adopts Halley. Everyone goes home and Vita asked if she can have a means to travel between worlds so everyone can visit each other instead of her promised reward. (Note: This was discussed with Ni and Des and it was deemed that between the talents of all the R3s and the Diatron-15 that a means of travel would be able to exist for them).
-Jonathan asks if Vita would be willing to go home with him. Vita says she is, but she needs to do some things in her world first. She leaves Grianos with him because she knows very well she'll be able to figure out a direct method of traveling between worlds if her familiar is in the other world.
PSL stuff:
-Vita sent Grianos back with Jonathan and went back to her world at first.
-She resigned from Ouroboros after giving a report on what happened. The Grandmaster accepted this and said she'd welcome more information about other worlds.
-During this time she kept in contact with Jonathan through Grianos and eventually came to develop a version of the teleport magic that works between worlds. She shared this with Emma as well.
-She also tried to find a solution for Kerri, but failed because she couldn't reach the priestess' soul. She did succeed at getting information from the Black Workshop that could be used to resurrect people who aren't awakeners later and also got a hold of Crow's body to ensure he'd not end up in the hands of the Gnomes.
-She went to Jonathan's world and stayed with him pretty much. They were just like a normal couple for a few months. While he was gone on missions she would at times visit her world. She also eventually arranged for Eric Lecarde to resurrect since Charlotte was able to tie his soul to his spear and with that Vita could place his soul into a body. She gave information and a large payment to Erika Russell to do this and obtain her silence on who provided the information.
-Jonathan and Nagisa gave Vita some training in self-defense. She also gave them ARCUS units and taught them how to use arts and combat links.
-About 3 months after they met she proposed to him and he accepted.
-At some point in here Jonathan had the unfortunate luck of finding out how badly dying affected Vita since he ended up on the ground trying to kiss her on the neck from behind. He's fully aware of what happened the night she died now despite the fact that it wasn't covered in the trial due to Akira's quick confession.
-At some point during this Vita did confide in Jonathan regarding the intent for Ouroboros' plans so he would know that she had good intentions. This helped him a lot because he then knew that while her actions may not always be entirely good, her reasons are. Plus she feels he should know that her world may not remain a safe place to live and her friends may need a safe haven in his world.
-They ended up getting married on Valentine's Day 1945. Vita would have invited everyone from R3, plus Halley, Ivy and Ivy's husband along with her friends from her world. Emma was asked to be the Maid of Honor and Jonathan let Crow be a groomsman since Vita wanted to him to have some part since he's her closest friend. She also would have invited Roselia, Aurelia and Wallace and Jonathan would have invited all his friends and family. The only condition Vita gave was that the people who attended had to be aware that she was from another world so her friends and family could come too.
MW2 events:
-Vita wakes up on the plane and finds out the situation is very much too similar to that of the Base.
-Vita finds out Jonathan and Yurick are among those kidnapped, along with Akira's double with a different name.
-Vita holds a meeting to explain the situation and ends up arguing with Hiyori
-She avoids Hiyori who obviously hates witches and magic and works on investigating stuff
-Ace and Satania get killed, everyone tries to investigate
-Trial happens, Vita puts aside her dislike for Hiyori to work towards finding the killer.
-Riot happens, Eddie gets killed.
-Vita ends up being the best suited to try and land the plane, though she gets assistance from Kokoro and the two murderers.
-Once things are in better shape, they are all contacted by a suspicious person offering to send them home so the plane can land safely. Vita is overly suspicious of the person and declines the offer.
-They end up in frozen hellscape, and transport everyone to somewhere warmer. After getting rest, healing people who still need it and getting stuff like a change of clothes, Vita will the hostages she knows back home. After getting her and Jonathan's hostages home, her and Jonathan will be taken to R6.
As far as headcanon goes for the canon history, I use the following things:
-Vita left her home at 16. I personally go with the interpretation that in the Trailsverse, 16 is deemed an adult for most purposes and seems to be the earliest age at which a young witch can get permission to leave Erin and become a traveling witch.
-Soon after Vita met the Grandmaster. She was told of the fact that the plans that Ouroboros is carrying out can potentially delay/halt a future Armageddon/Great Collapse, however we want to interpret that final scene of CS4 and her comments in CS3. She also likely saw a potential to broaden her horizons as a witch with the Grandmaster. It is also possible she saw this as a way to end the need for the witches to all continue the same duties they have for ages now and keep themselves hidden.
-As an Anguis and member of Ouroboros, Vita has training in many unusual things that aid her in her position. She has a talent for learning new skills and being able to blend in, so she picked up many of the things she was taught quite easily. This talent has also be useful in learning to adapt to a new world. Vita is also the one who taught all the Enforcers/Anguis who can teleport how to do so.
-One of the first things Vita did was attempt to build up influence with the nobles. She chose a profession of opera signer because she is actually a skilled singer and also because skill in the arts is one of the few things that can open doors with the nobility that most commoners cannot open.
-While the Gospel Plan was unfolding, Vita was hard at work building the foundations needed. She is also familiar with the location of the Black Workshop, but tended to avoid working with any Gnomes unless absolutely necessary and left that to the nobles. She wouldn't be aware of George being a Gnome, but would be aware of Black Alberich's existence and that he was Franz Reinford that he faked his death. That's why she'd have little concern regarding Sharon's hiatus from the society.
-Vita's canon point for R3 had a slight error (partially my fault and partially the wiki's timeline being a mess), so to correct that I'm going to run with Ouroboros had discussions to work with Osborne and the way they are going has led to Vita distancing herself from them because she doesn't want to work with Osborne or the leader of the Gnomes. I went with a timeline of March 1205 for her R3 canon point and she's started to distance herself. Seven months passed between R3 and the end of MW2, so in Erebonia it's now November 1205. In Jonathan's world it's about mid-February 1945. We picked Valentine's day for their wedding and MW2 happened the day after.
-While Vita has resigned as of the end of R3, she's still loyal to the Grandmaster. With her former position she is aware of what the final goal is. She's no longer an Anguis or officially part of Ouroboros, but is still considered an ally unlike the others who have left and work against them. Thus in her current timeline Ouroboros isn't seeking her out, but Osborne still deems her a potential threat.
-Vita was aware of how an awakener is brought back from the dead. The main reason why she didn't do anything about Crow was because she wasn't aware that George stole the body. Due to R3 events getting her interested in the technology to create a human body, she ended up finding out about the plan and where Crow was before he revived and was able to prevent Azure Siegfriend from existing. Her timeline's Emma is now looking after him and Rean.
That One Place: Roselia's Manor in Erin. Even if Vita won't ever return home to stay, Roselia still keeps her and Emma's room as it was and in CS4 it's very clear that her home is special to her still and her family means a lot to her.
Personality: So overall Vita is a reasonably decent and nice person. People who meet her usually will think this of her. She's the sort who knows how to handle people. For the longest time she would assume a role that was expected of her and act the part with a lot of skill. While she often does act, she keeps what she says mostly to the truth and just leaves out things she cannot talk about. However, despite all this one thing to keep in mind is that while Vita has good intentions, that doesn't always translate to her actions being completely good. This is a woman who felt risking Class VII's lives was worth it to give them a more suitable trial and felt starting a war to advance her plans was a great idea. She may not set out to do people harm most of the time (Osborne being an obvious exception), but she is definitely a person who feels the means justify the ends.
She has changed to a degree now. Marrying a complete idealist is obviously going to make her a better person. At the same time, she keeps her husband from going overboard with the idealism. She's definitely learning better to understand that her duty as a witch isn't the most important thing, and it definitely won't keep her alive and happy. After dying and feeling a ton of regret for what she could have had, she's far more determined to seek her own happiness first. She also realizes the great potential that meeting people from other worlds can have. While she has left Ouroboros, she's not ignoring everything she worked towards or her loyalty to the Grandmaster. She feels that by living in another world she can provide an alternate path in case Ouroboros' plan fails in the end while still finding a good life of her own. Overall she has a far better balance between happiness and duty and cares more about staying alive. She's found contentment in a normal life because right now she's glad to have been given a second chance after dying once. That was what led her to pursuing Jonathan instead of just enjoying a fun flirtation and going back home like she would have if she hadn't died.
Now all this being said, that doesn't mean that she only gained from having died. To be honest she considers it to be knowledge she shouldn't have ever gained and sometimes wishes she could just remove the memories of how it feels to die. She's downright terrified of having to die again someday and that definitely plays a big role in her decision to seek a more normal life. She knows very well that what got her through such things in the past was to look forward towards a good ending and focus on how she can change any possible bad endings. That is something she does at times to keep her fear in check because she doesn't like focusing on what can go wrong but instead making plans and back up plans to make things go the way she wishes.
Possessions:
1. Her familiar, Grianos. With no access to powers, he'll just be like a regular pet bird other than the fact that he's of no known species of bird.
2. Her fan, glitter optional.
3. Her wedding dress.
4. The Pervert Defense Rod® The best defense against perverted murderers.(which is just a rod of scrap metal Vita found in deadlands in R3, but if someone wants to be funny and brand it be my guest)
5. A very lovely blue silk robe that Jonathan is quite fond of. (Probably something like this, but a bit more of a tight fit around the breasts.)
6. Blue glitter, perfect for giving everyone craft herpes and making investigations prettier! (please make this renewable so we can glitterbomb the place)
7. The picture of Crow she was given during the motive in R3
8. The outfit she wore when pretending to be Misty.
9. The novel "Lovesong of Summer Grass" which is Dorothee's first published work and of course Aurelia would have made sure to secure a copy to give to Vita when she visited. It is a lovely novel about boys fostering blazing love and blistering camaraderie.
10. Some chocolate covered poms. A rather unique food to Zemuria that tends to be favored to be served at festivals.
Physiology: While Vita is a witch, that's just a normal human with a much higher innate capability for magic and training with it. She'll be more skilled at using her power right off because it's very much like magic. One thing that does bear mentioning though is that because of her being murdered in R3, she has a very unconscious and irrational fear of dying again and tends to become very fearful of situations similar to how she had died. The biggest things are that she reacts poorly to being pinned down or to anything touching her neck, especially if it is similar to a cord (she actually no longer can wear necklaces or clothing with tight collars).
Motives: She's actually going to be a bit harder to motivate than she was in R3 because of what happened there. However she does very much have the motive that if someone hurts her husband, she'll hurt them. Probably the easiest way to get her as a culprit would be to have someone else kill Jonathan and then she kills them. Threats of harm to people she cares about who can't defend themselves may also work, but overall she knows she makes a poor killer and is unlikely to attempt again since she died the last time she tried. She's definitely more likely to end up a victim again.
RP Sample: MW2 investigation + interaction with Jonathan
Case Sample: So pretty much Lee and I have definitely decided we want Vita and Jonathan involved in a case together and for it to be a double murder. We have two possible ways for it to play out. One is that Vita and Jonathan are both victims. Maybe the culprit attacked one, the other arrives later and is killed to eliminate a witness.
Another potential is a case with two culprits, but one of those culprits is killed. So Vita or Jonathan end up as the culprit. This could go a few ways. Vita or Jonathan could actually be tempted by the motive and try to kill someone. They screw up or chicken out and get killed instead. Whichever of them is still alive happens upon this and kills the culprit either out of revenge or even potentially self-defense since they'd likely be attacked to eliminate a witness. This result may make a trickier case since the one still alive who is now the culprit will obviously say they'd never kill their spouse and the characters would have to figure out that the other victim did that and the spouse is indeed a viable suspect.
No matter which direction we end up going in, Vita is far more likely to act out of revenge or self-defense than actually caring about the motive. Having attempted murder before and ending up a victim is going to make her very wary of being tempted by a motive again. Jonathan and Nagisa also have trained her in non-magical self-defense in case she ended up losing her powers again. She's more adept at using her fan and is capable of using some other weapons. She definitely won't go down without a fight, but she knows her skill isn't with melee attacks and would rely on Jonathan for that and attempt to go more for disabling attacks and then running. Her power is also offensive in nature and similar to her magic, so she's very likely to use that and even injured she could defend herself that way.
If she does end up as the culprit, she'll do her best to stay alive. Her main line of defense would be that she wouldn't kill her spouse. The characters would definitely have to figure out that she only killed one person to get her to open up. As long as she's accused of two murders, she'll deny it completely. While she is adept at lying and hiding the truth, she's not going to be in a good mental state with her husband dead and it will be very doable to get past that because she'll be a mess emotionally and will make mistakes that she wouldn't have made if she felt nothing for the victim.
Killer or Victim Consideration: I'm good with either! Lee and I have already notified Ni that we want to volunteer for a double murder for case 2 or 3. We definitely have decided we'll figure out who is what once we know who the third person involved in this is and what will work best for the player and character.
Special Role Consideration: Vita could easily be talked into doing almost anything for the sake of her and Jonathan's safety. However, since Lee and I have volunteered for a case I get that she's unlikely to be picked.
